How to Recognize and Avoid a Phishing Scam:

What is phishing?
Phishing is when communication via email, phone, text, etc. is received from people or companies that you recognize, but, they are actually fraudulent scammers attempting to get your personal information in order to take control of your accounts or steal your identity.

How to avoid it:
Does it make sense? Do you do business with this person or company? Have they ever contacted you in this manner before? If the answer is “no” this is a red flag! Do not click on any links! Do not give out your personal information until you are sure that it is a legitimate contact! Contact the person or company yourself using a number you know to verify.

What to do if you think you’ve been scammed?
Change your passwords immediately, report the scam, and monitor your accounts. To report a scam, go to ftc.gov/complaint. Continue to monitor your accounts to make sure there are no unauthorized transactions taking place.
